|b The African Union (AU), which was formally announced in 2002, is one of the steps taken in the path of African unity in the footsteps of the Organization of African Unity, which was established in 1963 and was interested in the continent’s independence from European colonialism. The Union is a continental organization with more advanced mechanisms and ideas to cope with the issues and crises of the modern era, especially the political and economic ones. The African Union was established by the Security Council and the African Peace, which began its activities in 2004. The most important issues entrusted to the Council are issues of support for democratic governance and good governance In African countries. The study examines in detail the various organs and mechanisms of the African Union in supporting good governance in Africa, and the study presents a number of models in which the Union will put an end to its crisis. In the end, the African continent still suffers from military control over governance, unconstitutional changes in power and pre-election violence, and despite the efforts of the African Union, it remains limited to the magnitude of the challenges facing the African continent with respect to democracy and good governance. The «Mo Ibrahim» award for good governance in Africa in 2017, which no one has received in the continent, is an evidence of the failure of the African Union to manage the file of democracy and good governance on the continent
