المستخلص: Since the earliest periods of Egyptian history, cosmetics have been commonly used not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for their medical, magical or religious attributes. Not only men and women were adorned with cosmetics, but also their mummies, statues and the statues of their gods and goddesses. Egyptians were greatly appreciative of beauty and they considered cleanliness and purity of the body an important matter both in daily life and in the afterlife. The aim of this paper is to determine the body care materials through examining the origin of cosmetics materials, classify these materials according to their sources and clarifying how they were prepared for different purposes. Historical and analytical methodology is applied to achieve the aim of this paper. Findings of this study revealed that cosmetic materials in ancient Egypt formed the base of many modern cosmetic products and techniques. They were from natural sources as plants, animals, salts and mineral. They were used in cleansing, paint, treatment and protection of the body.
