المستخلص: This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of theinterna- tional law instruments, strategies of the United Nations and international surveillance and investigations instruments in settling disputes, reducing proliferation and forcing absolute disarmament of mass destruction weapons. Furthermore, the study shed light on the impact of the United States policy on the effectiveness of the obligations imposed by the international treaties and conventions. The study employed the content analysis methodology which entailed the content analysis focusing on a comprehensive extant of literature review whereof data were unitized and categorized as of 1946 till 2015. The researcher started with initial categories before analyzing the data which consisted of treaties, observations, literature review, and events. The researcher employed philosophical and epistemological qualitative data. The Word key search and computer programs helped the researcher analyze the qualitative data. Findings were reported and recommendations and study limitations were also noted.
