المستخلص: I have been curious about these two poets (Abu Tayeb al-Mutanabi and Abu Faras Al-Hamadani) since the time of the study. If we talk about one of them, we glance at the other. They are the most important poets of the fourth century AH, the two stars of the court of Sayf al-Dawla, and the most famous competitors of the artistic and literary arena.
Strangely enough, many literary and critical studies have neglected Abi Faras intentionally or unintentionally and took care of the other (Al-Mutanabi) with detailed explanation.
I liked to enter into the experience of studying them together because of their distinctive culture and literature as well as what distinguished them from one another. When I examined their poetry collections, I found them full of various poetic purposes, and each had his own saying concerning that. They were also creative in purpose and neglected the other for a reason or without reason. I exceeded all purposes and stood on one purpose that combined them because the research was short and could not absorb the rest of the purposes.
Although Ibn Raqq believes that it is (one of the most difficult for the poet to lament a child or a woman), they had a gentle saying that called for research and study. The difference in social status had the first effect on the difference in the image of lament between them, so they were on opposite sides. In addition, they converged in it in terms of anguish and sorrow. Death took away those who were authority, hope, love, longing, and the trail mate for those who became orphans in early childhood. Death thus cut off the relation leaving behind the emptiness and memory. On the basis of that, the research after the summary was divided into a prelude and two chapters. The prelude talked about their attributions and criticisms. (The first chapter) discussed lament and its developments. (The second chapter) dealt with the lament of the two poets in terms of quality and weakness. The study greatly discussed their poem, which they said about the only woman in their lives, and then concluded with a conclusion in which the researcher explained the most important results.

لقد أثار فضولي هذين الشاعرين – أبو الطيب المتنبي وأبو الفراس الحمداني – منذ زمن الدراسة، فاذا تحدثنا عن احدهما نظرنا بطرفنا للآخر، فهما أهم شاعري القرن الرابع الهجري، ونجمي مجلس سيف الدولة، واشهر متخاصمي الساحة الفنية والأدبية.
والغريب في الأمر أن العديد من الدراسات الأدبية والنقدية اهملت شان أبي فراس بقصد او دونه، لتتولع بالآخر – المتنبي - شرحا وتفصيلا.
وقد أحببت أن اخوض تجربة دراستهما معا، لما تميزا به من ثقافة وأدب فضلا عما تميزا به من بغض أحدهما للآخر. وعندما تفحصت ديوانهما وجدته مليئا بالأغراض الشعرية المتنوعة، وكان لكل منهما قوله الخاص فيه، فضلا عن أنهما ابدعا في غرض وقصرا في الآخر لسبب أو دون ذلك. فتجاوزت كل الأغراض مستقرة على غرض واحد يجمعهما، وذلك لقصور البحث وعدم استيعابه لبقية الأغراض.
وعلى الرغم من أن ابن رشيق يرى بانه (من اشد صعوبة على الشاعر أن يرثي طفلا او امرأة)، الا انه كان لهما قولا لطيفا، يدعو للبحث والدراسة فيه، فاختلاف المنزلة الاجتماعية كان لها الأثر الأول في اختلاف صورة الرثاء بينهما فكانا به على طرفي نقيض فضلا عن ذلك فقد تقابلا فيه من حيث اللوعة والحسرة، فقد خطف الموت من كانت السند والأمل والحب والشوق ورفيقة الدرب لمن ناله اليتم في عمر الطفولة المبكرة، فقطع الموت بذلك صلة الرحم تاركا وراءه الفراغ والذكرى وعلى أساس ذلك قسمت البحث بعد الملخص على تمهيد ومبحثين جاء في التمهيد حديثنا عن الشاعرين ما لهما وما عليهما، وجاء (المبحث الأول) حديثنا عن الرثاء وتطوراته، وجاء (المبحث الثاني) في رثاء الشاعرين من حيث الجودة والضعف، وأخذت وقفة مطولة على قصيدتهما التي قالاها في المرأة الوحيدة بحياتهما ثم اختتمت بخاتمة أوضحت فيها أهم النتائج.
