هدفت الدراسة إلى: توضيح الأسس النظرية لتطوير الأداء المؤسسي مثل مفهوم تطوير الأداء المدرسي وجوانب تقييم الأداء المدرسي ودراسة أهم تجارب الدول العربية في مجال تطوير الأداء المدرسي مثل مشروع تمام ومناقشة خصائص البحث الإجرائي وأنواعه ودوره في تطوير الأداء المدرسي ومعرفة مظاهر تطوير الأداء المؤسسي والمظاهر التجديدية التربوية في مدارس الظهران الأهلية. وقد استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي والمنهج التكاملي المعتمد على سرد روايات بعض الأفراد وأسلوب دراسة الحالة وخرجت الدراسة بمجموعة من النتائج منها عملية تطوير الأداء المدرسي هي جزء لا يتجزأ من العملية التربوية ومشروع تمام هو مشروع تجديدي تربوي قائم على فكرة تطوير الأداء المؤسسي المستند إلى المدرسة واستخدام البحوث الإجرائية من ضروريات عملية تطوير الأداء المدرسي وجميع عمليات التطوير إذا لم تتصل بالمدرسة بصورة مباشرة، فلا جدوى منها لأنها لن تحقق الأهداف المرجوة منها وأوصت الدراسة بمجموعة من التوصيات منها تعميم ثقافة تطوير الأداء المؤسسي في الحقل التربوي والاهتمام بالحركات والمشاريع التربوية الحديثة وتعميمها وتدريس البحوث الإجرائية في الجامعات والمعاهد التربوية وإقامة دورات تدريبية وورش عمل تهتم بتطوير الأداء المؤسسي ودراسة نماذج للمدارس الناجحة والمتميزة في تجاربها التعليمية والاستفادة منها للوصول إلى تعليم منفتح وجيد.
