The aim of this study is to determine empirically the factors (variable) that have a significant impact on the foreign direct investment inflows in Saudi Arabia. After reviewing a number of theories in foreign direct investment and some important empirical studies in developing and developed countries in this field, a Single – equation model was determined to analyze the behavior of foreign direct investment in Saudi Arabia. The model contained several explanatory variables that are expected to have a strong influence on the foreign direct investment inflows in Saudi Arabia. These variables are market size, the nature resources in Saudi Arabia, the infrastructure of Saudi economy, Riyal exchange rate, local investment climate, economic stability and the depended variable (foreign direct investment inflows) lagged one year. The correlation matrix of the explanatory variables indicated that there is a high degree of Colinearity between the market size and the banks’ claim on the private sector. This means that the parameter estimates are seriously affected. Therefore, the two variables cannot be used in the same model. Accordingly, in this study two models were estimated, each model has one of those variables besides the other variables that were mentioned above. The estimated models revealed the following findings: 1. The estimated parameters of the following variables market size, the Saudi economy’s degree of openness, the banks’ claims on the private sector and depended variable (foreign direct investment inflows) lagged one year are found to be statistically significant at 5 % level with right sign. The general statistical finding revealed that the determination coefficient of both estimated models are noticeably high at (R2= 0.740), (R2 = 0.737) respectively. The F - Statistic ratios of the model, (21.011), (20.902) respectively show the estimated models as a whole are statistically significant. Durban - H Statistic of the model are(- 0.91), (-0.89) respectively. Lastly the standard error of the models (SER) are noticeably low. In short, the general statistical finding indicated the estimated models goodness of fit is considerably high.
