520 |b Since Descartes, it has become customary to define man by thought. Imagination has often been a denigrated faculty, if not despised. It is only from Baudelaire's time that «the chatter of the mind», as Pascal calls it, has regained recognition. The valorization of the imagination as a creative faculty makes it possible to establish with the world a deep and fruitful relationship. Baudelaire’s aesthetic integrates the ugly, the trivial and the innocuous as creative elements where inspiration is drawn from the city and not from nature. It is in this modem line that the romantic creation of Ahmed Mahfoud is inscribed. The cogito of the imagination is thus a self-affirmation by an authentic Tunisian imaginary. At each turn of the sentence, Mahfoudh slides an image, an Arabic word, a proverb, the description of a character, the details of an event so that any reader understands that this author seeks only to throw us in the space-time of his imaginative cogito.
