The use of pesticides is well organized and often dangerous; their easy availability makes them a popular way of hurting oneself. Studies on accidental chemical poisoning are very limited in Libya. The objective of this study was the assessment of acute poisoning rates in children from 2012 to the end of 2016, and determination of the significant factors affecting the rate trend in Children's Hospital, Benghazi, Libya. Medical records of patients that attended the hospital during the period from 2012 to 2016 were reviewed. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19 to determine the presentation rates for paediatric poisoning by pesticides and the determinants of hospital admission. The records showed a total of 113 children’s cases occurred during the last five year period. The most vulnerable age group included children >5 years old (92.7%). Cases involving males (61.06%) outnumbered the females (38.9%). Almost all of the patients poisoned with organophosphorous and carbamates (83.1%) and fully recovered after the treatment.
