The literature survey on building capacity in various organizations in the developing countries has revealed that a definitive association among the skills that required by the employers and the skills obtained by the employees during training. The research purpose and objective are to examine the current practices for building capacity in skill development in large manufacturing organizations, identify gaps, shortcomings and recommend programs that will enhance the effectiveness of building capacity. The scope of study covers analysis of training needs, effectiveness of training programs for supervisory and worker skills in manufacturing and recommendation of measures/programs that will enhance the effectiveness of building capacity. Two manufacturing organizations (Gulf Petrochemical Industry Company - GPIC and Aluminum Bahrain - ALBA) have been selected for the study (through questionnaire and interviews). Alba sample is 385 and GPIC is 100 for questionnaire. Interviews have been conducted for eight employees, 4 employees from each organizations. Employees from different sectors have be selected for the interviews and questionnaire in the both organizations. The analysis of the performance of these organizations will enable to identify and recommend effective and innovative building capacity programs (outcome). The survey results would be analyzed through a statistical package and would be elaborated in results section with the interviews. Research limitations/implications: research might have some flaws in the quantitative approach. Practical implications: The paper includes implications for the development building capacity through training. Originality/value: This paper fulfils a recognized requirement to study how training can support the capacity building.
