At – tahthib Dictionary is one of the precious and dependable books as its author abo Mansour Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al- Azhari (died 370 AH) was so famous for collecting, searching, memorizing and transferring the Hadith from the trusted teller. At – tahthib Dictionary is one of the fourth AH century that collected different fields of sciences and knowledge. It is a general linguistics, scientific and cultural encyclopedia containing all aspects Of Language and scientific Accordingly, At – tahthib Dictionary has a privileged position among the other linguistic dictionaries for its high standing in the history of Arabic dictionary. In other words, At – tahthib Dictionary is a dependable book with a trustworthy other. It is a forefront for other dictionaries appeared in the following decades. therefore, the author of Lisan Al- Arab says ''I did not find better than At – tahthib Dictionary of abo Mansour Al- Azhari''. This what all Arabic dictionaries aim to. When we look in dictionaries history we find that Arabs have the superiority on others in this field. Taking in consideration the importance of descriptivism and the lexical heritage of Arabs, this study "Features Of Descriptivism in At- Tahthib Dictionary of Al–Azhari (Died 370 AH)" is built on a preliminary and three chapters, followed by a conclusion. The preliminary is entitled "descriptivism and prescriptivism as a concept and an approach" Chapter one is entitled "Gathering Language and its induction in Tahthib Al-Lugha Dictionary. It deals with the sources that Al – Azhari used in gathering his stuff which were of two types: First: Direct Hearing. Second: Retelling. Chapter Two deals with the three methodological foundations for Tahthib Allugha Dictionary: (phonological arrangement, building consideration, at taqalib system). Chapter Three deals with the dialects used in dictionary in their four levels (phonological, morphological, grammatical, and semantic level). The conclusion includes the important benefits of the study. After this short introduction I have to express my deep gratitude to my supervisor.
