المستخلص: Studying the cities' history is one of the important studies in the field of history as it participates in recognizing the political and economic aspects of these cities as well 1 as the social and cultural aspects, on one hand, and on the other hand the history of cities is a part of the country history so recognizing the part's history helps in recognizing the whole history. The previous justifications had motivated the researcher to study the social history of Karbala in an academic thesis entitled (The Social History of Karbala City (1958-1968) where the studies that deal with the history of this city are rare; there is only one master thesis under the title of (the social life in Karbala city in the last Ottoman history (1869-1914) by the researcher Intisar Abd Own Mohsin. The study time range starts with 1958: the beginning of the republic regime in Iraq, which represents an important shift in the contemporary history of Iraq, and ends with 1968 where Iraq had witnessed another important shift represented by the revolution of 1968 The thesis includes an introduction, a preface, four chapters and a conclusion. The preface deals with Karbala site and name. The four chapters' titles are (The planning and the social structure of Karbala population till 1968), (The effect of the political, administrative and economic status and the scientific movement in Karbala till 1968), (The cultural aspect and the associations and parties in Karbala till 1968) and (services in Karbala till 1968), respectively.
