|a يختلف تعليل التاريخ حسب الفهم الإسماعيلي عن تلك التي يعلل بها عند باقي الفرق، فهو من صنع الإمام، ومحور رحاه، واضعي التاريخ بذلك تاريخ أئمة، له حقب سبعة، تبدأ كل حقبة بإمام وتنتهي به، وعلى الشاكلة نفسها تم تعليل التاريخ، فكل حقبة تختص بخصوصية معينة، تتوقف على إرادة الإمام، فحركة التاريخ يحكمها علم الإمام الوهبي، فهو الذي يعلم الغيبيات، وانطلاقاً منه تم تبرير فشل الحملات على مصر، فالتاريخ في الفهم الإسماعيلي تاريخان، تاريخ هو الحدث، وتاريخ آخر هو تأويل الحدث، والأخير هو المقصود بالتاريخ عندهم. هذا ما حاول الباحث بيانه في المقال.
