|b The study emphasizes on the role of sustainable development in relation to planning for the local communities in Jordan for the period (2012-2015) focusing on the status of the Ajlun Governorate. Some areas in the province suffer from the imbalance in the distribution of services, therefore, there is an urgent need to undertake a study of the Ajlun region, in order to address the problems. The objective of the research is to identify the impact of sustainable development and planning on local communities in the Ajlun Governorate, and work on the inventory of the identification of the most important problems and difficulties facing the development process in the study area. The importance of this research in an attempt to identify the geographical areas suffering an imbalance in the distribution of the different services, in order to take full advantage of all population groups in the study area, this research is also considered an addition to libraries and the local community due to the scarcity of studies on the theme of sustainable development in the study area. The search adopted the historical Approach and methodology using inductive reasoning and it employed primary and secondary resources for data collection. The primary findings of the study revealed several important results which are: the statistical data of the responses revealed a level of 5% Knowledge of sustainable development in the local community organizations, 5% understanding among all segment of the local community of the services in the region, 5% public awareness of sustainable development in all segments of the local community and the elimination of poverty, and finally a value of 5% of all segment of the local society aware of the problems of planning in the area which lead to a neutral final outcome unlikely leaning in any direction. The study lead to a number of recommendations, the most important of which is dedication special attention and care to the historical dimension and to the natural resources such as forests and natural conservation areas during the development projects in the future, which will contribute to bridging the development gap between the various regions in the governorate and the reduction of poverty and the creation of job opportunities for the people of the province. This information plays an important role in the development of sense of the community in the study area to participate in the process of sustainable development, as well as raising the level of awareness toward what is happening in the outside world, and activating the role of the public participation in all stages of planning and sustainable development focusing on tourism and the upgrade of infrastructure. This will create job opportunities within the local community in sectors like public transportation and periodic roads maintenance and it will secure financial support for the municipalities to establish various development projects such as agricultural expansion, water harvesting and maintenance of agricultural roads and springs. Additionally, it will encourage the private sector to establish specialized colleges in a variety of areas, reducing the burden of students migration to studying other governorates
