تكتسب التربية أهمية قصوى في حياة الإنسان وذلك لتنميته وإصلاحه، ومنذ العهود الأولى لتاريخ البشرية اهتمت الفلسفات والتشريعات السماوية والوضعية بموضوعة التربية بوصفها اللبنة الأساسية في عملية بناء الإنسان ونشأته. ومنذ نشأته عند الإغريق مروراً بمراحل تطوره كافة، مارس المسرح دوراً تربوياً بارزاً وشكل أحد عناصر التربية المباشرة وغير المباشرة التي رافقت المجتمعات البشرية منذ البدايات الأولى للتاريخ. فللمسرح دور بارز في بناء وبلورة شخصية الفرد وفي رسم صورة المجتمع بحسب مقتضيات كل فترة وبلد بوصفه من أهم وسائل الاتصال المؤثرة في المجتمع، وقد استخدم من قبل القييمين على المجتمعات كأداة تفاعلية قادرة على التأثير في سلوك أبناء المجتمع. ودأب المسرح العربي ومنذ بواكيره الأولى على طرح المضامين التربوية والأخلاقية في أغلب نتاجاته المسرحية سواء بشقيها المؤلف والمقتبس- وهو ما يُرى جلياً في المحاولات الأولى للمسرحيين وفي مقدمتهم (مارون النقاش). وما تبعه من محاولات في هذا المجال.

Since the early stages of the Arab theater, educational and moral content has been put forward in most of its productions, both in the author's and in the quotations, which is evident in the first attempts of the playwrights and in their introduction (Maroun Al-Nakah). And its subsequent attempts in this field.
