المستخلص: بين الباحث دور علماء الأزهر في الدفاع عن الإسلام، واهتمامهم بالدراسات الاستشراقية المتعلقة بالقرآن والسنة، وشخص سيدنا محمد – صلى الله عليه وسلم، والفلسفة الإسلامية، واللغة العربية، وتاريخ الأمة الإسلامية، وتراثها، وثقافتها، ومواجهتها بكل ما أوتوا، محافظين على العهد، متفانين في النصيحة، مرابطين على هذا الثغر، مؤدين واجب الشرع والدين والوطن، لا تأخذهم في الله لومة لائم، ولا يخشون إلاًّ ولا ذمة، وقد اشتمل البحث على مقدمة وتمهيد ومبحثين وخاتمة.
المقدمة وفيها أهمية البحث، وأسئلة البحث، ومنهجه، وخطته، والتمهيد وفيه: دور الأزهر الشريف في حراسة الشريعة.
المبحث الأول: دور الأزهر الرائد في الاهتمام بالدراسات الاستشراقية ومواجهتها.
المبحث الثاني: ريادة علماء الأزهر في الاهتمام بالدراسات الاستشراقية ومواجهتها من خلال مصنفاتهم.
الخاتمة: وفيها النتائج والتوصيات ومن أهم هذه النتائج التي توصل إليها الباحث ما يلي:
1- أشار البحثُ إلى أن الرائد في نقد الاستشراق، وفضح مخططاته، والرد على شبهات المستشرقين المتعصبين، إنما هو الأزهر الشريف، وعلماؤه الأماثل الأفاضل.
2- بيَّن البحث أن علماء الأزهر كانوا مثل أتون يتأجج نارا على المستشرقين المتعصبين ، فقاموا بتفنيد آرائهم وحججهم، وتبيين أنها أوهن من بيوت العنكبوت بناء.
3- أكد البحث على أن لمجلة الأزهر الشريف وهداياها المتعددة المتعاقبة، دورا واسعا في توعية المجتمع وقراء المجلة بأخطار الاستشراق.
4- من الأساليب الرائعة التي اتبعها علماء الأزهر في الرد على شبهات المستشرقين المغرضين، أنهم ردوا كلام بعضهم ببعض، من باب قول الله – تعالى: (وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ منْ أَهْلِهَا) سورة يوسف: 26، وهو يعد أقوى رد، وأعظم حجة، وأشد إصابة لسهام المستشرقين.
5- لم يتخل شيوخ الأزهر الأجلاء، الأماجد عن المشاركة في هذا الجهاد المقدس، الذى هو رد الطعون والتجريح عن الإسلام عقيدة وتشريعا وحضارة، ورد الطعون عن النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم – والكتاب الذى أنزله الله – تعالى – عليه، وقد نوَّه البحثُ ببعض آثارهم في هذا الجانب.

The researcher explained the role of Al-Azhar scholars in defending Islam, their interest in Orientalist studies related to the Qur'an and Sunnah, the personality of our Prophet Muhammad - may Allah bless him and grant him peace-, Islamic philosophy, the Arabic language, the history of the Islamic nation, its heritage, culture, and its confrontation with all that they face, preserving the covenant, dedicated In the advice, connected to this loophole, performing the duty of Shari'a, religion and the homeland, in the Way of Allah they do not care the blame of the blamers, and they fear neither kinship nor convenient. The research included an introduction, a preamble, two subjects and a conclusion.
The introduction contains the importance of research, research questions, methodology, plan, and preface contains the role of Al-Azhar in guarding Shariah.
First: Al-Azhar's leading role in paying attention to Orientalist Studies and confronting them.
Second: Leading role of Al-Azhar scholars in paying attention to Orientalist studies and confronting them through their works.
Conclusion: It contains the results and recommendations. Among the most important of these results reached by the researcher are the following:
1- The research pointed out that the pioneer in criticizing Orientalism, exposing its plans, and responding to the suspicions of fanatical Orientalists is Al-Azhar and his ideal scholars.
2- The research showed that the scholars of Al-Azhar were like a furnace that was burning fire on fanatical Orientalists. They refuted their opinions and arguments and showed that they were frailer than the cobwebs in construction.
3- The research confirmed that magazine of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its numerous successive gifts play a wide role in sensitizing society and readers of the magazine to the dangers of Orientalism.
4 — One of the wonderful methods used by the scholars of Al-Azhar in responding to the suspicions of the Orientalists is that they responded them with words of each other, according to the words of Allaah — may He be exalted: "A witness of her household bore witness" Surah Yusuf: 26. This is considered the strongest response, the greatest argument, and the most severe target to the arrows of the Orientalists.
5- The grand and laudable Sheikhs of Al-Azhar, did not give up participating in this holy jihad, which is the rebuttal of defamations and insults from Islam as a creed, legislation and civilization, and the rebuttal of defamations from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the book revealed by Allah (may He be exalted) to him. The research has praised some of their works on this aspect.
