المستخلص: The work of Patrick Modiano is based on the research of origins and the desire to reconstitute a life. This quest for identity is inseparable from an autofictional style of writing that confers on his work a particular charm. This paper is based on Livret de famille and Dora Bruder to determine the distinctive features of this writing and to emphasize the important place of these two books. This study will focus on structure and recurrent themes. Livret de famille and Dora Bruder provide answers to understand the relations that exist between the quest of identity and the obsession of the past and to demonstrate the analogy between fiction and reality. The analysis of these two books will allow us to identify the originality of Patrick Modiano’s writing. This style of writing, which oscillates between memory and oblivion, is an excellent weapon to struggle against the oblivion itself. It is also an effective means to release the weight of obsessive memories that always made him suffer. This style of writing is based on two stories that merge over the pages: One is autobiographical that relates the restructure of Modiano’s personal life and the other one is fictional where it is about invented stories concerning other fictional or real characters. In fact, Modiano offers us a new style of autofictional writing privileging the ambiguity and relying on the imaginary on one hand, and the autobiographic and historical realities on the other hand.

L’oeuvre de Patrick Modiano est fondée sur la recherche des origines et le désir de reconstituer une vie. Cette quête de soi est indissociable d’une écriture autofictionnelle qui confère à son oeuvre un charme particulier. Nous nous proposons, dans cette recherche qui se basera sur Livret de famille et Dora Bruder, de déterminer les traits distinctifs de cette écriture et de souligner la place importante qu’occupent ces deux ouvrages. Nous avons opté pour une étude de la structure et des thèmes récurrents. Livret de famille et Dora Bruder fournissent des clés pour comprendre les rapports qui existent entre la quête de l’identité et l’obsession du passé et pour démontrer l’analogie entre la fiction et la réalité. L’analyse de ces deux ouvrages nous permettra de cerner l’originalité de l’écriture de Patrick Modiano. Cette écriture, qui oscille entre la mémoire et l’oubli, est une excellente arme pour lutter contre l’oubli. C’est également un moyen efficace pour se délivrer du poids des souvenirs obsédants qui l’ont toujours fait souffrir. Elle est fondée sur deux récits qui se mêlent au fil des pages: l’un autobiographique qui relate la reconstitution de la vie personnelle de Modiano et l’autre fictionnel où il s’agit d’histoires inventées concernant d’autres personnages fictifs ou réels. Modiano nous offre, en effet, un nouveau modèle de l’écriture autofictionnelle qui privilégie l’ambiguïté et qui s’appuie sur l’imaginaire d’une part et sur la vérité autobiographique et la réalité historique d’autre part.
