|b In this study, we have chosen a comparative study between the novels "the Malavoglia " of the Italian writer Giovanni Verga and the" beginning and end" of the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz. We have observed the similarities and differences between the two writers in dealing with the living conditions of two families who enjoyed calm and a stable life. As if each of them was wondering how the two families fell into poverty and misery. Verga and Mahfouz have expressed their conviction that life is like the stairs of the ladder: there are those who ascend to the top and there are those who love down and there is on this ladder the loser and the winner. The winner who does not know that life is always changing and that the loss awaits everyone. And especially those who transcend borders in his dreams. ... and survives only from remaining adhering to the traditions and values of his old world. In fact, Verga and Mahfouz had written two novels that their events are still going on and on as long as human nature does not change, and their lives remain the same.

|a لقد أخترنا في هذا البحث عمل دراسة مقارنة بين روايتي "عائلة مالافوليا" للأديب الإيطالي جوفانى فيرجا و"بداية ونهاية" للأديب المصري نجيب محفوظ. وقد قمنا برصد أوجه الشبه وأوجه الاختلاف بين الأديبان في معالجة الظروف الحياتية لأسرتين تعرضتا لكوارث مفأجئة بعدما كان ينعم أفرادهما بالهدوء والحياة المستقرة. وكأن كل منهما كان يتساءل كيف سقطت الأسرتين في الفقر والبؤس. وقد عبرا فيرجا ومحفوظ عن قناعتهما أن الحياة مثل درجات السلم: هناك من يصعد إلى أعلى وهناك من يهوى إلى أسفل ويوجد على هذا السلم الخاسر والرابح. الرابح الذي يجهل أن الحياة تتبدل دائما وأن الخسارة تنتظر الجميع. وبصورة خاصة من يتخطى الحدود في أحلامه. ...وينجو فقط من بقي متمسكا بتقاليد وقيم عالمه القديم. في الحقيقة أن فيرجا ومحفوظ قدما روايتين أحداثهما مازالت قائمة ومتكررة طالما أن طباع البشر لا تتغير وتبقى حياتهم متشابهة.
