المستخلص: تعتبر المستودعات الرقمية المؤسساتية من أحدث التكنولوجيات التي تعمل على جمع، حفظ وإدارة البحوث العلمية، وكذا إتاحتها دون عوائق مادية وبحد أدنى من القيود القانونية على الويب، وقد أصبحت عملية إنشائها هي مهمة ومسؤولية المكتبيين في القرن الواحد والعشرين، حيث يقومون بأدوار ووظائف قيادية في عملية التخطيط لها، تصميمها وبنائها وهذا بوصفهم خبراء في تجميع الوثائق والمعلومات الرقمية الشكل وكذا وصفا، حفظها واستضافتها. وتعد مكتبة جامعة هونغ كونغ للعلوم والتكنولوجيا Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(HKUST) من أشهر وأفضل الأمثلة على مكتبات أكاديمية شارك المكتبيون العاملون بها في عملية إنجاز المستودع المؤسساتي الخاص بها، ومن هنا نبعت مشكلة البحث الحالي، والتي تمت صياغتها في التساؤل الرئيسي التالي: ما هو دور اخصائي معلومات مكتبة جامعة هونغ كونغ للعلوم والتكنولوجيا في إنشاء المستودع الرقمي المؤسساتي التابع لهذه الجامعة؟ ونظراً لطبيعة الموضوع الهادفة إلى الكشف عن مهام وأدوار المكتبات عامة وأخصائيين المكتبات ومنظمات المعلومات خاصة في دعم النفاذ المفتوح، وتحديداً في بناء المستودعات الرقمية المؤسساتية التابعة للجامعات التي يعملون بها فقد اعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، حيث تم جمع البيانات والمعلومات من المصادر والوثائق لتقديم الموضوع من جهة، وتحليل البيانات والمعطيات المستقاة من الدراسة الميدانية من جهة أخرى. وقد تبين بعد دراسة تجربة مكتبة جامعة هونغ كونغ للعلوم والتكنولوجيا مشاركة أخصائيين المكتبات ومنظومات المعلومات هذه المكتبة كمصممين، مطورين ومتابعين أساسيين لمستودعها الرقمي المؤسساتي (HKUST).

Institutional digital repositories (IRs) are the latest technologies of collecting, preserving, and managing scientific research's, as well as disseminating them without physical and legal restrictions via the Web. The process of setting-up them is the mission and responsibility of 21st century librarians who play leadership roles and functions in the process of planning, designing and constructing them, as experts in the collecting, describing, preserving and hosting digital information. The library of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is one of the most famous and best examples of academic libraries in which the library specialists participated in the process of setting-up its institutional repository, hence the current research problem, which formulated in the following main question: What is the role of the information specialist of the HKUST Library in the setting-up of its institutional digital repository? Due to the nature of the subject, which aims to reveal the functions and roles of libraries in general and library specialists in particular in supporting open access, specifically in setting-up the institutional digital repositories of the universities in which they work, the study relied on the analytical descriptive approach, where data and information collected from sources and documents to present the subject on the one hand, and analysis of data obtained from the field study on the other hand. After studying the experience of the HKUST Library, The results revealed the participation of information specialists of this library as a main designers, developers and followers of its institutional digital repository.
