This research deals with an interesting issue in contemporary narratives in relation with the “modality” and the great roles it plays in creating a fictional universe, in which the reality of worlds is not attained only by connection to the speaker, his views and beliefs. This research advocates the theory of possible worlds as developed by Marie -Laure Ryan's conception, a major theory in this respect. The reason is that the managing modality systems leads us to examine the interaction between the actual world, the possible worlds and the textual reference world in the given text, and the ways of intensifying fiction and generating meaning in the narrative discourse that it creates. From this perspective «Ashahhad»’s novel by Najib Mahfoud seems to be built on the narrator’s strategies to categorize both the visible and the invisible worlds into several representations, merging historical and social worlds, and creating a fictional mythical world from it, according to the speaker’s representations and ways in narrating visions and dreams, where the referential, the possible, and the impossible meet. This enriches the process of plot in the end, and covers its discourse with a special aesthetics, which making Mahfoud’s novel the worthiest in contemporary creative Arab fiction. يتدبر هذا البحث إشكالا مهما في السرديات المعاصرة يتعلق بمسألة "الجهة" وما تنهض به من جليل الأدوار في بناء كون قصصي لا تدرك حقيقة العوالم فيه إلا موصولة بالمتكلم ووجهات نظره وجهات اعتقاده، وقد اتخذ نظرية العوالم الممكنة وفق تصور ماري لور ريان (M-L.Ryan) أساسا نظريا له، ذلك أن تدبر الأنساق الجهية يوقفنا على طرائق التفاعل العالم الفعلي والعوالم الممكنة والعالم المرجعي للنص، وما يوفره ذلك من سبل تكثيف التخييل ومسالك توليد المعنى في الخطاب القصصي. |
