520 |b Israel occupied the Gaza Strip on November 2, 1956 and ended the period of Egyptian administration of the Strip (1948-1956). When the United Nations on November 7 issued a resolution demanding that Israel withdraw from the armistice lines designated under the 1949 agreement, the conflict between Egypt and Israel over the Gaza Strip began, and the fate of the Strip was at stake. The conflict went through two phases: The first was the attempt by Israel to remain and annex it. The second was its attempt to internationalize it by amending the mission of the international emergency forces to remain in the Strip until further notice. The field of this conflict was inside and outside the United Nations, and also in the Gaza Strip itself. There is no doubt that the solidity of the Egyptian position and diplomatic efforts, and the position of the people of the Gaza Strip and their insistence on the return of the Egyptian administration, as well as the American position, and the emergence of the idea of sanctions against Israel, all this compelling Israel to withdraw and hand over the Gaza Strip to the international emergency forces on March 7, 1957, on the promise that He will not return to Egypt. However, the Egyptian government did not care, and initiated the appointment of an Egyptian administrative governor for the sector, and demanded the departure of the international emergency forces, which happened on March 16, 1957.
