المستخلص: The research discusses the topic of the contextual connotation of animal names in the Mu'allaqat (the hanging) poems as a model of animal connotation in pre-Islamic poetry. The researcher noted that the poets of Mu'allaqat frequently talk about the animal, its descriptions, the multiplicity of names, and its analogy in different situations and positions. Hence came the main idea of the research, which is to reveal what connotations, perceptions, and means did the poets of Mu'allaqat had in their minds, which they expressed by mentioning the names and qualities of animals. The study also identifies the extent to which the presumption of the social, geographical, and historical context and the presumption of position or place, customs, and norms influence in highlighting those meanings and purposes that the poets did not mention but hinted at by mentioning the words and qualities of the animal.
In light of the descriptive-analytical approach, the animal's words in the Mu'allaqat poems are classified into four main groups, each expressing a certain contextual connotation. These connotations are:
The connotation of power and predominance, represented by the horse group;
The connotation of need and benefit, which is represented by the camel group;
the connotation of hostility and cruelty, represented by wolves;
The connotation of love and beauty, which is represented by the Antelope group.

يناقش البحث موضوع الدلالة السياقية لأسماء الحيوان في قصائد المعلقات كنموذج لدلالة الحيوان في الشعر الجاهلي، فقد لاحظ الباحث كثرة حديث شعراء المعلقات عن الحيوان وأوصافه وتعدد أسمائه والتشبيه به في مواقف وحالات مختلفة، ومن هنا جاءت فكرة البحث الرئيسة، وهي الكشف عما كان يجول في أذهان شعراء المعلقات من دلالات وتصورات ومعان عبروا عنها بذكر أسماء الحيوانات وصفاتها، ومدى تأثير قرينة السياق الاجتماعي والجغرافي والتاريخي وقرينة الموقف أو المقام والعادات والأعراف في إبراز تلك المعاني والمقاصد التي لم يصرح الشعراء بذكرها ولكنهم ألمحوا إليها بذكر ألفاظ الحيوان وصفاته.
وفي ضوء المنهج الوصفي التحليلي صنفت ألفاظ الحيوان في قصائد المعلقات إلى أربع مجموعات رئيسة، تعبر كل مجموعة عن دلالة سياقية معينة، وهذه الدلالات هي: دلالة القوة والغلبة وتمثلها مجموعة الخيل، دلالة الحاجة والمنفعة وتمثلها مجموعة الإبل، دلالة العداء والتوحش وتمثلها مجموعة السباع، دلالة الحب والجمال وتمثلها مجموعة الظباء.
