المستخلص: The research focused on the study of the word "day" and its derivatives as mentioned in the religious texts by investigating the textual implications of its alphabetical composition (ي و م) and its meanings as mentioned in the Noble Quran and Prophetic Tradition; and to explain the means of determining the meaning of the word "day" in the religious text and to highlight the effect of all of this in jurisprudential dispute. The research followed the inductive, analytical and deductive methodology, by scrutinizing the Quranic Verses and certain Prophetic Traditions that mentioned the word "day" and its derivatives, examined, analyzed them, explained their meanings and mentioned the effect of this on the disputes among the Islamic jurists on off-shoot issues [of jurisprudence]. The major findings of the research include: 1. That the origin of the textual implication of the meaning of the word "day" is: the period between the rising of daybreak till sunset. Any interpretation of day in contrary to this meaning needs presumption to substantiate it. 2. The diversity of the textual implications of the word "day" in religious texts led to dispute among the jurists on a number of jurisprudential issues.

تناول البحث دراسة لفظ اليوم ومشتقاته الواردة في النصوص الشرعية، وذلك، بالبحث عن دلالات مفردة (ي و م) ومعانيها الواردة في القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية، وبيان وسائل تحديد المراد من لفظ اليوم في النص الشرعي، وبيان أثر ذلك، كله في الخلاف الفقهي. وقد اتبع البحث المنهج الاستقرائي والتحليلي والاستنباطي؛ وذلك باستقراء الآيات القرآنية، وجملة من الأحاديث النبوية التي ذكرت لفظ اليوم ومشتقاته، ودراستها وتحليلها، وبيان معانيها، وبيان أثر ذلك في خلاف الفقهاء في المسائل الفرعية. ومن أبرز النتائج التي توصل إليها البحث: ١. أن الأصل في دلالة معنى اليوم هو: ما كان من طلوع الفجر الصادق إلى غروب الشمس. وحمل معنى اليوم على غير هذا المعنى يحتاج إلى قرينة تدل عليه. ٢. أن تعدد دلالات لفظ اليوم في النصوص الشرعية كان سببا في خلاف الفقهاء في حملة من المسائل الفقهية.
