المستخلص: The phenomenon of scientific families is one of the prominent phenomena in Arab Islamic culture, where families have emerged with sons inherited the interest in science and knowledge, raising to the highest cultural, social and political positions in the society. One of the most prominent features of the scientific renaissance experienced by the Islamic world was the presence of active scientific families, which played a prominent role in the progress and prosperity of Science. Western Sudan countries witnessed this phenomenon in their cultural presence, in the era of the Islamic states in the region, especially in the era of the Sungi state. Local and nonlocal books of Ulama’s biographies referred to some of the most important scientific families in the region, and to their scientific contributions to society and their compilations and writings. The scientific families also contributed to enriching the local libraries of the Islamic world with their scientific productions in various sciences and arts. This research sheds light on the scientific families in western Sudan, with a focus on the scientific families in the Songi state, especially the family of Aqet. In the first chapter the paper will focus on the scientific origins of the family and their educational role; and the second chapter will cover their role in judiciary, political and social life.
