المستخلص: Il contesto socio-politico, in cui nasceva e si sviluppava il romanzo poliziesco italiano, esigeva gli scrittori di adattare il racconto poliziesco alla retorica del regime fascista, la quale presentava un’immagine dell’Italia idillica e priva della criminalità, e presentava l’ideologia fascista come garante della sicurezza individuale e sociale, ed in molti casi l’adesione degli autori a questo genere si è limitata a servirsi degli elementi tipici della struttura formale del giallo, mentre gli argomenti trattati erano radicalmente modificati, i personaggi colpevoli devono essere sempre di nazionalità straniera, e l’investigatore è stato sempre servitore dello stato fascista e sempre trionfante.

The social and political circumstances, in which the Italian detective novel appeared and developed, obliged the novelists to be pro-Fascists. Fascism, in fact, featured Italy as an ideal and crime-free State. Through their works, those novelists were obliged to describe fascism as the only regime that ensures social security for everyone. In many cases, authors who adopted this literary genre kept only formal characteristics of the detective story. As for the other characteristics, they had to apply the fascist doctrine related to this genre: pro-fascist topics; the criminal is always a foreigner, not Italian; the investigator, however, is Italian: he represents the fascist regime that must always defeat the criminal. Thus, the novel which does not observe (apply) these elements lose copy right, and his author becomes a target of fascist surveillance.
