|a عرف المجال الواد زمي تغيراً ملحوظاً مع دخول الاستعمار الفرنسي، حيث عمل هذا الأخير على إنشاء مركز عسكري ما لبث أن تحول -بعد اكتشاف الفوسفاط- إلى مدينة منجمية، عرفت نمواً ديموغرافياً كبيراً بفعل الهجرة القروية. وقد كان هذا التغير المجالي في هذه المرحلة تغيراً مخططاً، خاضع لاستراتيجيات المستعمر لاستغلال ثروات المنطقة، وانعكس هذا التخطيط على مستوى المجال والعمران أيضاً… لكن بعد الاستقلال سيعرف المجال تغيراً مركباً: تغير مخطط من طرف الدولة والذي طغى عليه طابع المراقبة والضبط، وهو بالتالي استمرارية لرؤية استعمارية، وتغير تلقائي من طرف الفاعلين شاغلي/ مستعملي المجال من خلال استراتيجياتهم وتمثلاتهم وذاكرتهم الجماعية في تنظيم المجال.

|b The territory of Wed Zam watched notable changes due to the French colonisation. Indeed, the French colonizer, that made of Wed Zam a military center, transformed it into a mine city after the discovery of the phosphate. As a result, the city saw a demographic growth because of rural migration. Such territorial change in that period was planned to meet the strategies of the colonizer meant to make use of city wealth. The planification affected the territorial as well as the urban fields. The territory of Wed Zam, however, would witness a complex change after the independence: a planned change by the state that was marked by supervision and regulation following the model of the colonizer, unplanned and spontanous changes made by actors and dwellers according to their own strategies, representations, and collective Memory.
