There is no dispute over Aristotle's assertion in his book (The Art of Poetry) — which is his one of the most important aesthetic books — that poetry and painting are two types of simulation; they differ in the material they simulate and conform in the nature of the simulation, its method of formation and their effect on the psyche. The first used the word, and the second uses the colors and shadows, which made Sidonius (430-485 AD) say: "The painting is silent poetry and the poetry is speaking painting).
Al-Jahez (255 AH) is the first, in the classical Arabic criticism, who paid attention to the aesthetics of the painting in poetry and said: "Poetry is an industry and example of weaving and a kind of painting). His approach was later followed by the scholars of rhetoric and Arab critics.
The study can not elaborate or explain in detail the various opinions of the modern era theorists of the image in poetry as the issue does not tolerate that. Thus, the researcher finds that he is closer to what C. D. Lewis has provided in his book (Poetic Image), in which he defines the poetic image as "a drawing of words.". The more general character of that image is visible; however, most of it looks unsensual, and yet it actually has (an attached dim visual correlation).
We wonder whether the definition of a poetic image as a drawing of words is enough to define it and determine what it is? To answer this question, we say: The poetic image, no matter how beautiful, it is not as an advantage to the poet as it is a proof of his authentic projection unless it is soothing by the prevailing emotion and ideas awakened by emotion through those images. This is because the poet's style and subject are mainly based on conveying the emotion to the recipient, firstly, and because it expresses a human feeling, secondly.
The poetry— as Rilke sees — is not only feelings but experiences. Writing a poetic sentence evokes the recipient's attention, and its imagination requires one to take his thought back to ways in unknown areas, unexpected coincidences, and emotions dating back to the days of childhood that are still unknown, and to memories and scenes, with patience to recover all of that.
The image becomes a new presence in the language that expresses us and turns us into what it expresses, and here (the expression creates existence).
The poet Hussein Abdul Latif takes us to the areas of his travels for which he has drawn maps, in short poetries or sentences, and words; poems of the sea: for the traveler and his longing and migration, poems of the wind for the lost replies, poems of boys and childhood departure, traveler of the time towards the past, future poems prophecies with coming sorrows). We must continue to enter the world of the poet who has opted to sit and express his wishes in poetry, leaving us to go into his travels maps/poems.
We traded the sea on the coast
And we sat...
We graze the flowers of our maps at the threshold).
Trying to capture the shadows of his poetic images in its manifestations, and that is the adventure.
