تستأثر قضايا القبول باهتمام كبير من قبل عمادات القبول والتسجيل والمهتمين بالقبول في مختلف قطاعات التعليم العالي سعيًا وراء تحقيق العدالة في قبول الطلاب وتوزيعهم على الكليات المختلفة بما يتفق مع قدراتهم وتحصيلهم العلمي. لذا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتسهم في الجهود المبذولة نحو تقييم معايير القبول المستخدمة في الجامعة ومدى أهمية هذه المعايير، وترتيبها حسب أهميتها. حيث تستخدم الجامعة حليًا نسبة الثانوية العامة ودرجتي القدرات والتحصيلي اللتين يقدمهما المركز الوطني للقياس والتقويم. وتسعى الدراسة إلى التنبؤ بمعدل الطالب التراكمي من خلال هذه المتغيرات المستقلة (الثانوية، والقدرات، والتحصيلي) بهدف معرفة نسبة تفسير كل متغير للتباين في المتغير التابع وهو المعدل التراكمي. ولتحقيق ذلك استخدم الباحث أسلوب تحليل الانحدار الخطي المتدرج. حيث أمكن ترتيب المتغيرات حسب أهميتها، وأظهر التحليل أن متغير الثانوية يحتل المرتبة الأولى حيث يفسر وحده مربع معامل ارتباط مقداره 0.231 تلاه متغير الاختبار التحصيلي حيث فسرا معا مربع معامل ارتباط مقداره 0.284 ثم متغير اختبار القدرات الذي فسر مع سابقيه مربع معامل ارتباط مقداره 0.297. مما يشير إلى أهمية نسبة الثانوية العامة، في التفسير التباين في المعدل التراكمي، لذا يجب أن يتم التركيز على الأداء في الثانوية العامة وتعطي نسبة الثانوية النصيب الأكبر عند المفاضلة في القبول.
