إن دراسة (صراع الأجيال وأثره في تماسك العائلة العراقية المعاصرة) تسلط الضوء على أهم المشكلات التي تواجه الأسرة وهي مشكلة الصراع بين الآباء والأبناء، تكمن أهمية الدراسة في الأثر الذي تتركه هذه الظاهرة على تماسك الأسرة العراقية المعاصرة وأيضا معرفة ما يميل الوالدين إلى ممارسته في كل مرحلة من مراحل نمو الأبناء في ظل التغير الاجتماعي والثقافي وغيرها. كما هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على الأسباب والآثار المترتبة على ظاهرة صراع الأجيال ومعرفة أهم التوصيات التي تقضي على أسباب المشكلة أو تقلل من حدتها، اختارت الباحثة مدينة الديوانية لتكون مجتمعا للبحث واختيرت عينة البحث بشكل عشوائي وتألفت من (٥٢٩) مبحوثا، تتراوح أعمارهم من (١٨- ٦٧) سنة، واستعملت الباحثة أربعة مناهج علمية في جمع المعلومات للدراسة وهي (المنهج الوصفي، المنهج التاريخي، ومنهج المسح الميداني، والمنهج المقارن)، وقد استنتجت الدراسة الحالية أن هناك أسباب أو عوامل تؤثر بصورة مباشرة على التماسك الأسري وتؤدي إلى صراع، منها اجتماعية مثل التنشئة الاجتماعية الخاطئة ورفاق السوء وضعف الوازع الديني وتدليل الأبناء وتسلط الآباء، ومنها نفسية مثل الاضطرابات النفسية والإدمان على المخدرات، وأسباب ثقافية مثل العولمة والإنترنت ووسائل الإعلام وانخفاض المستوى التعليمي للوالدين، والأسباب الاقتصادية مثل الفقر أو الثراء الأسري، كل هذه الأسباب لها جوانب سلبية تؤدي إلى زيادة حدة الصراع بين الآباء والأبناء.
