يناقش هذا البحث مفهوم التفنن كما يظهر من أقوال العلماء، والتدليل على معرفة العرب في استعمالاتهم المختلفة للتفنن في الكلام، ودواعي نقله من أسلوب إلى أسلوب. كما وقف الباحث عند شيوع هذه الظاهرة في النص القرأني بوصفه جزءا من طريقة القرأن، بل بابا من أبواب الإعجاز. ثم انتقل إلى التفصيل في دواعي ذلك التفنن مستشهدا ببعض نماذجه ومناقشتها باتباع المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، مما قاد إلى جملة نتائج تتعلق بتلك الدواعي وهي: الإعجاز والتحدي للعرب فيما يحسنون؛ وليكون بذلك حجة عليهم -زيادة المعاني التي تفيدها هذه المغايرة بين الألفاظ أو التراكيب - مراعاة حسن النظم وذلك بالتفنن في صور الكلام بما يجعله أبلغ وأجمل من حيث نظمه - مناسبة السياق بالمخالفة بين الألفاظ والتركيب بما يتسق مع السياق الذي ترد فيه - التناسب المعنوي باستخدام لفظ دون آخر مراعاة للمعنى في الموضع المعين - تجديد تشاط السامعين، وذلك باتباع سنن العرب بالعدول من أسلوب إلى آخر تنشيطا للسامع - كراهية تكرار اللفظ والصيغة فيما لا يقتضي التكرار بقصد التهويل ونحوه.
This research discusses the concept of mastery as shown by the scholars' opinions, and the proof of the knowledge of the Arabs in their different uses of speech and the reasons for his transfer from style to style.
