- Islamic legal theorists authenticate the hadith despite the fact that hadith scholars doubt its strength and reliability of its means of transmission. - This study shows that the hadith is frequently cited in the books of Islamic legal theorists who give it much attention. - Islamic legal theorists employ the hadith for purposes of inference and use it as a source-text for the formulation of principles of fiqh and opinions on issues of relevance to Islamic legal theory. - Islamic legal theorists use the hadith resourcefully especially with respect to analogical reasoning, ijtihad, and proofs. - Some scholars have relied on the hadith to deny the proof-value of certain legal features such as scholarly consensus, equity in Islamic law, and the revealed laws preceding Islamic law. - The research comprises 24 issues for which Islamic legal theorists employed this hadith for substantiation.
