A few western travellers went to Maghrib in the Middle Ages. The two narratives of Anselme Adorno and Joos van Ghistele, who sailed to Ifriqiya at the end of the 15th century, are thus two exceptionnal testimonies, particularly interesting given that they are full of diverse informations. They describe the faith and the religious practices of the local inhabitants, but also their everyday life (their clothes, their food) with a lot of details. One of their principal interests is architecture, both antique and actual, in particular urban architecture. Peu de voyageurs occidentaux abordent le Maghreb au Moyen Âge. Les deux récits d’Anselme Adorno et Joos van Ghistele, qui se sont rendus en Ifrîqiya à la fin du XVe siècle, constituent par conséquent deux témoignages exceptionnels, d’autant plus intéressants qu’ils sont très riches en informations diverses. Ils décrivent non seulement la foi et les pratiques religieuses des populations locales, mais aussi leur vie quotidienne (leurs vêtements, leur nourriture) avec beaucoup de détails. Un de leurs intérêts principaux réside dans l’architecture, qu’elle soit antique ou actuelle, en particulier urbaine. |
