إن الناس قبل بعثة المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم، كانوا يعيشون جاهلية أشبه بحياة الوحوش في الغابات، يأكل القوي منهم الضعيف، لا هم لهم غير جمع المال وإشباع الغرائز، فلما بعث الله جل جلاله محمدا صلى الله عليه وسلم، أخرج به من أراد هدايته من ظلمات الشرك والضلال، إلى نور التوحيد والهداية والحق، فأظهر الله تعالى دينه، وأعلى كلمته، وأنجز وعده بنصر الإسلام والمسلمين، حتى اتسعت رقعة الدولة الإسلامية، التي كان يعيش المسلمون في أمن وعدل ورخاء، في ظل تحكيمهم شريعة الله سبحانه، مما جعل الأمم المجاورة تنظر إليهم بعين الغبطة والحسد، فبدأوا يدرسون علوم المسلمين وأحوالهم لأغراض شتى، منها: القدح في شريعتهم، والطعن في الإسلام، لتشكيك المسلمين في دينهم، وللاستفادة من منهج الإسلام للخروج مما هم فيه من الضلال والظلم. ومع مرور الوقت أصبح لمعظم دول أوروبا والغرب مستشرقون، يدرسون علوم المسلمين وأحوالهم، ومن هؤلاء: المستشرقون الروس الذين بدأوا منذ عدة قرون بدراسة العالم الإسلامي والعربي، ولذا كان من المناسب إلقاء الضوء على نشاطاتهم، بدراسة تاريخ الاستشراق الروسي، الذي أفرد له هذا البحث.

With the passage of time, most of the countries of Europe and the West became orientalists, studying the science and conditions of Muslims, and among these: Russian orientalists who began several centuries ago to study the Islamic and Arab world, and therefore it was appropriate to shed light on their activities, by studying the history of Russian Orientalism, which singled out this research.
