المستخلص: المندوب حكم من الأحكام الشرعية التكليفية، يقصد به: ما طلب الشارع فعله طلبا غير جازم، ويحتل المندوب مكانة وأهمية كبيرة بين الأحكام الشرعية، فهو خادم للواجب، وواجب على عموم العموم معرفته، كما أنه يجب على الجملة، ويدخله الأمر به والنهي عنه.
وثمة ألفاظ لها صلة بالمندوب كـــــ (السنة، النفل، المستحب)، من العلماء من جعلها مصطلحات مترادفة، ومنهم من فرق بينها.
وللمندوب صيغ وأساليب يعرف بها هي: ألفاظ تدل على الاستحباب، أو لفظ أمر اقترن بما يدل على صرفه عن الوجوب.
وقد قسم المندوب إلى أقسام عديدة؛ تارة بحسب الفاعل، وتارة بحسب الوقت، وأخرى بحسب التعيين.
وتناول العلماء مسائل عديدة تحت حكم المندوب وهي:
- هل المندوب مكلف به أم لا؟
- هل المندوب مأمور به؟
- هل يجب إتمام المندوب إذا شرع فيه؟
- هل يجوز ترك المندوب إذا صار شعارا للمبتدعة؟
- هل يترك المندوب إذا خيف اعتقاد العامة وجوبه؟
- إذا ورد دليل على فعل بالندب هل يدل على وجوب أصل ذلك الفعل؟


The Mandoob (recommended act) is one of the Shari' legal provisions, which means: what the legislator has requested to act upon without making it mandatory. The Mandoob (recommended acts) occupies a high and important position among the Shari' rulings. It serves the Wajib (mandatory), and (is) a general duty to know it and is Wajib (mandatory) on a collective basis. Enjoining good and Forbidding evil is included in (this) category.
There are words related to Mandoob, such as Sunnah, Nafl (non-obligatory prayers, and Mustahab (favored). Some scholars call them synonymous terms, while some others make a difference between them.
The Mandoob (recommended act) has forms and methods by which it is known. These are words that signify an (act being) favored or an ordering word that is accompanied by a statement indicating its dismissal from being obligatory.
The Mandoob (recommended act) has been divided into several kinds, sometimes according to the one undertaking it (i.e the doer), sometimes according to the time, and sometimes according to the denotation.
Scholars dealt with several issues under the ruling of Mandoob:
- Is the Mandoob (recommended act) an act of liability (Mukallaf) or not?
- Is the Mandoob (an act) that has been commanded?
- Should the Mandoob (recommended act) be completed if (someone) embarks on doing it?
- Is it permissible to abandon the Mandoob if it becomes a ritual of Bid'ah (innovation in Islam)?
- Should the Mandoob (recommended act) be abandoned if there is a risk that the public may think it is obligatory?
- If there is evidence suggesting an act being Mandoob (recommended act), does it indicate that the origin of that act is obligatory?
