Proverbs are considered the most important form of folklore because of its expression of thoughts in our daily lives. Proverbs are based on two main parts; the first one is known as the formal or literary part, because it is based on rhetoric. the second part is known as the social part , because it is concerned with the ethics of people . Noteworthy is the difference between wisdom and proverb, because wisdom means knowing the best ideas with the best methods. so, proverbs more spread among the uneducated than among educated people . It is important to mention that the study of Greek proverbs could shed light on the life and thoughts of the Greeks. Greek proverbs with moral content lead us to hold on to positive values and to avoid negative values. Moreover, Greek proverbs with educational content appears more in didactic proverbs than in other kinds of proverbs. Because most nations express their experiences through proverbs, it is natural to find similarties between proverbs in different cultures. This similarity compelled me to hold comparison between Greek proverbs and their equivalent ones in Egypt proverbs. In addition, this similarity between proverbs –in Greek and Egypt – Could lead to future studies exploring cultural aspects between Greek and Egyptian culture. |
