المستخلص: معنى الجملة والتركيبية هو واحد من أهم المواضيع في الدراسات الدلالية. تتناول هذه الدراسة العلاقية بين معاني الجملة وكيف يمكن استخدام معاني الكلمات الفردية في بناء معنى واحدت أكبر لهذه الأحكام، وكيف يمكن التحقيق في معنى هذه الأشكال الجديدة.

Sentence meaning and compositionality is one of the most important topic in semantic studies. This study deals with the relationship between sentence meanings and how the meaning of individual words can be used to build up the meaning of larger units such as sentences and how the meaning can be investigated by these new forms. Many students face difficulties to understand the meaning of terms as syntax, semantics, utterance meaning, systematicity and compositionality. Iraqi English foreign learners also face difficulties in how to arrange the components to build up good sentence and paragraph and how to combine units according to the rule of syntax, semantics, syntactic structure and systematicity, to give meaningful and grammatical sentence. The present study aims at: 1- Present a theoretical background about the forms of syntax, semantics and the interfaces between them, and how the form of sentence helps in understanding its meaning. 2- Facilitating the ability to understand the concepts of sentence meaning and compositionality also the difference between sentence meaning and utterance meaning. 3- Showing how to make a good sentence by depending on the rules of syntactic structure, systematicity and compositionality which will be grammatical and meaningful sentence. This study is limited to the terms of sentence meaning and compositionality and the terms that are related to these concepts. Also there are no irrelevant reference will be made except these two concepts' terms.
