المستخلص: In a highly technologically advanced era and in an increasingly digitalized economy, money has become virtual in many forms and names. A global phenomenon, crypto-currencies as a means of payment (especially bitcoin) have shaken the economic and financial world. This paper aims to understand digital instruments that can potentially challenge the prerogatives of central banks in the fields of the payment system and to understand how digital currencies could potentially compete with these traditional payment systems. The first step is to take a look at the various existing crypto-currencies, and secondly, to highlight their advantages and challenges.

Dans une ère fortement avancée technologiquement et dans une économie de plus en plus digitalisée, la monnaie s’est virtualisée sous plusieurs formes et appellations. Phénomène mondial, les crypto-monnaies comme moyen de paiement (notamment le bitcoin) sont venues bouleverser le monde économique et financier. Ce papier vise la compréhension des instruments numériques pouvant potentiellement remettre en question les prérogatives des banques centrales dans les domaines du système de paiement et de comprendre comment les monnaies digitales pourraient potentiellement concurrencer ces systèmes de paiement traditionnels. Il s’agit en premier lieu, de porter un regard sur les différentes crypto-monnaies existantes, et en second temps, mettre en lumière leurs avantages et enjeux.
