العصر المعلوماتي Information age له بالغ الأثر على سرعة التطور التكنولوجي المتلاحق بحيث أصبح جزءا لا يمكن إغفال تأثيره على العمارة وعلى الاتجاهات المعمارية والتخطيطية المعاصرة، فأصبحت بتلك التقنيات جزء لا يتجزأ من أدوت المعماري لصياغة فكر معين في العملية التصميمة والتي تمثلت في اتجاه المباني الذكية Smart Building والمدن الذكية. ويعتبر التطور التكنلوجي ركن أساسي من أركان تطور المجتمعات وأثر بصورة كبيرة وفعالة على تطور العمارة ومن هنا نشأت مشكلة الدراسة باعتبار أين نحن من هذا التطور؟. ويهدف إيجاد الهوية والطابع العمراني والمعماري المواكب لروح العصر من خلال التعرف على آليات وأدوات العمارة المعاصرة. ولتحقيق هدف الدراسة اعتمدت في إطارها النظري على تحديد المفردات الرئيسية الأكثر دقة وإحاطة. ومن ثم تعبئة لنموذج الاستبيان الذي تم توزيعه ضمن استكمال متطلبات الدراسة وصولا لاستخلاص أهم النتائج والتوصيات النهائية. وقد خلصت الدراسة في النهاية إلى مجموعة من النتائج المتعلقة بمدى تطور التكنلوجيا وأثرها على العمارة المحلية بالإضافة للنتائج المتعلقة بتحليل الاستبيان انتهاء بأهم النتائج العامة. فكانت أهم التوصيات العمل على تضيق الفجوة الرقمية فيما بيننا وبين الدول المتقدمة فيما يتعلق بتكنولوجيا المعلومات والعمل على توسيع استخدام تقنيات المعلومات. من خلال توظيف إمكانيات التطورات التكنلوجية في أفكار وأعمال المصمم المعماري كونه العنصر الفاعل في حركة البناء الحضاري المعاصر. وتدريس هذه الاتجاهات المعاصرة في أقسام الهندسة المعمارية. وضرورة تبني أفكار تصميمية جديدة تقوم على استخدام النظم التكنلوجية والرقمية الحديثة وتغيير في بناء الفكر التصميمي المعاصر للمعمارين المحلين.
