المستخلص: Since the emergence of electronic and informatics technology at the dawn of the third millennium, the developed world has gone to export oriented industrialization to increase productivity and create more job opportunities. However, the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with its new technologies such as robots, Internet of things, 3D printing and artificial intelligence, has led to change many features of the industry. This change in the nature of the industry is expected to continue in the coming years. Within those expectations, African countries are aspiring to follow the same path, namely, to innovate and take advantage of artificial intelligence technologies especially in agriculture, industry and education. Despite the remarkable economic growth, that Africa has recorded over the past decade and a half in the midst of global volatility and turbulence, but it still needs a new economic-growth model that is underpinned by the strength of the economy and a serious trend toward entrepreneurship and innovation. The study aims to identify the importance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and artificial intelligence techniques and their relation to the development of economic activities in Africa. It seeks also to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in the development in supporting the African economy, as well as the role of digital entrepreneurship and the digital economy in advancing the African economy. In addition, the study deals with the opportunities and challenges facing the African economy during its adoption of artificial intelligence technologies, the future of those technologies in the African continent and the scenarios of its success.
