يشير هذا البحث إلى دراسة اهم استخدامات المياه في المراحل الصناعية للصناعات النفطية (التحويلية) والصناعات الكيمياوية في محافظة البصرة، إذ تنوعت هذه الاستخدامات كما تنوعت عمليات المعالجات التي تمر بها المياه الصناعية قبل أن تكون ملائمة لتلك الاستخدامات المختلفة، يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة أهم الاستخدامات الرئيسة للمياه في الصناعات النفطية والكيمياوية في المحافظة، إذ يتم إجراء عدة عمليات معالجة فيزيائية وكيمياوية للحصول على مياه صناعية ذات مواصفات تتناسب مع متطلبات الصناعات النفطية والكيمياوية في المحافظة، وقد بلغ عدد محطات معالجة وضخ المياه الأولية أربعة محطات عاملة لعام 2018، تخدم أربعة منشآت صناعية كبيرة في محافظة البصرة، حيث سجل مصفى البصرة أعلى كمية من المياه المسحوبة والمعالجة والمطروحة، حيث بلغت كميتها 6912، و4879، و2033 ألف م3 لكل منها على التوالي، وجاءت المنشأة العامة للصناعات الكيمياوية ثانياً إذ بلغت كمية المياه المسحوبة من النهر 2798 م3، وكمية المياه المعالجة 1614م3، وبلغت كمية المياه المطروحة 1154م3، وجاءت منشأة التحليل الكيميائي ثالثاً فقد بلغت كمية المياه المسحوبة من النهر 2592 م3، وكمية المياه المعالجة 2509م3، وبلغت كمية المياه المطروحة 86م3، وأخيراً وجاءت المنشأة العامة للصناعات البتروكيمياوية فقد بلغت كمية المياه المسحوبة من النهر 2276م3، وكمية المياه المعالجة 1289م3، وبلغت كمية المياه المطروحة 987م3.
