إن الهوية ومواكبة المعاصرة من القضايا القومية التي اهتم بها العديد من الفنانين من خلال التعمق في مفهوم التراث وعلاقته بالتجديد، حيث إن الأصالة هي أساس المعاصرة والتراث يمثل وسيلة للوصول إلى التحديث، فلا يمكن للتراث أن يكون منفصلا عن الواقع الحي، ومع انتشار وسائل الاتصال الحديثة التي أتت بأفكار الغرب وفنونه وموسيقاه إلى المجتمع المصري بدأت تخرج للوجود فنون شرقية تحمل بين طياتها إدماج المضمون الشرقي مع وسائل الصياغة الغربية ليعبر الفنان من خلالها عن التطورات الحادثة في الموسيقى العالمية، مع انتقائه للألحان واستخلاص القيم المحلية في المفهوم والطابع، وممارسة حوار إيجابي يجمع بين مقومات الفن ويعتمد على فكر مستمد من الموسيقى العالمية متعدد الأساليب والاتجاهات ليواكب التغيرات الحادثة ويواكب العالم الخارجي في الفكر والأسلوب والأداء الفني بالموسيقى التراثية المواكبة للمعاصرة لتأتي المؤلفات في إبداع متفرد، وإرادة حرة، وتعبير نقدي ولها أبعادها المفاهيمية واستعاراتها اللحنية وقوتها الروحية التي تضمن خلودها، فهي ذات قواعد ومذاق خاص يضفى عليها قيم الهوية القومية ويطبعها بسمات مميزة في أسلوب صياغة الألحان، جماليات اللغة، الجرس الموسيقي وثراء المقامات والموازيين الموسيقية بهدف المحافظة على طبيعة الهوية في الإنتاج الموسيقي وكيف يمكن أن يرتبط بمفهوم الحداثة، ويتعامل في ذات الوقت مع متغيرات كثيرة ومسميات غربية أصبحت مألوفة لتنضم هذه الأعمال إلى الحوار الجمالي الجديد الذي يدور في أنحاء العالم ويتجه نحو ظهور تيارات إبداعية جادة تسعى إلى تحقيق معنى الهوية المعاصرة. وفي تجربة مع مجموعة من الدارسين في قسم التربية الموسيقية بكلية التربية النوعية جامعة أسيوط لدمج موسيقى التراث المصري مع الموسيقي العالمية على أن تمثل مؤلفاتهم الانتقال بالقديم إلى الجديد والخروج من قوقعة الذات إلى رحاب الآخر، التأكيد على الأصالة المصرية من خلال المعاصرة، إبداع موسيقي تصل إلى العالمية بروح مصرية، وضع الموروث الفني والوافد على نفس المستوى من القيمة، الوعي بالأساليب وتقنيات بناء المؤلف الموسيقي، استيعاب اتجاهات موسيقى التراث في مصر واستدعاء الواقع المصري المعاصر. وقد جاءت مؤلفات الطلاب في أغلبها معبرة عن التطورات والتجديدات في الموسيقى المصرية التراثية واستخلاص القيم المحلية في المفهوم والطابع وممارسة التأليف بأسلوب يجمع بين مقومات الفن والتغيرات المتكررة في الفكر والأسلوب والأداء الفني، والاعتماد على الفكر المستمد من الموسيقى العالمية متعدد الأساليب والاتجاهات ممثل في التكثيف النغمي للألحان، وذلك من خلال الدمج بين بعض الألحان الموسيقية المصرية وهي آه يا زين، يا عزيز عيني، لما بدى يتثنى، بفتة هندي وأساليب الألحان الغربية لابتكار مصاحبة لها سواء هارمونية أو بوليفونية.
