عملية الصراع بين المعقول والمنقول من النصوص التاريخية من أهم الصعوبات التي قد تواجه الباحث في مجال التاريخ الإسلامي الذي ألزمه منهج البحث بتقديم رأيه مشفوعا بالدليل النقلي، في حين لا يطالب من سبقنا من المؤرخين الأوائل بذلك ويعد قولهم حجة علينا رغم أن حالهم كحالنا في عدم معاصرة الحدث فهم نقلوه عن من سبقهم من أسلافهم. ومما أثار اهتمامي في الموضوع هو اتفاق المسلمين على أن "أقرأ" الوارد ذكرها في سورة العلق المباركة إنما هي تدل على فعل القراءة في حين أنهم اتفقوا على أن القرآن الكريم نزل على النبي محمد (صلى الله عليه واله وسلم وحيا) ولم يكن مكتوباً أو مدوناً فكيف تحقق ذلك؟ هل أراد الله سبحانه من النبي الكريم أن يقرأ أو يكتب أم أراد منه أن يتلو على مسامع الناس باسم الله ويدعوهم للتوحيده سبحانه وتعالى... وهل استجاب النبي صلى الله علي واله وسلم مباشرة لهذا الأمر الإلهي وبدأ بدعوة الناس أم أنه اختار طرقاً أخرى للدعوة حرصاً على إنجاحها وإتمامها وكيف تم له ذلك وهل كان النص المنقول متوافقاً مع العقول في موضوع الدعوة السرية في المجتمع المكي؟.
