The argumentation is used in teaching / learning because it helps learners to speak better in a foreign language. But studies in language didactics have asserted that the learner finds himself in difficulty to engage in a written or oral argument. Learners in general have a better grasp of description as well narrative rather than as argumentation, which is part of our everyday life. Argumentation is one of the primary functions of language and one of the needs of human activity. We all need to present our ideas, to defend a point of view, an opinion, or a judgment. It is an essential process that calls for communication, but this activity is all the more complex for learners especially when conducted in French as a foreign language. What, then, are the difflculties confronting argumentative discourse? Why is the learner incapable of engaging in argumentative operations? What prevents this linguistic competence from being frilly mastered? How do teachers exploit the argument in the class of the FLE? What are they doing to overcome this difficulty? How can it be made a very effective means of teaching / learning? We propose in this article to identify and discuss the factors that frame these difficulties. Our experience as a teacher in Saudi Arabia has led us to conclude that argumentation is a complex skill that requires a lot of training on the part of learners in order to master it. In addition, it will provide us with the necessary elements to answer the following question: Are the textbooks cunently being taught in the classroom teaching of FLE capable of training Saudi female J.C.I-Z students in argumentative competence?
