The study surveys the economic history of the Sudan during the rule of Mohammed Ali Pasha and his heirs ie between ei between 1820- 1881. The era is important because a new economic system was instituted in the Sudan. An administrative system was initiated to facilitate the exploitation of the country's resources. The Sudan was divided into regional provinces each ruled by a governor and Khartoum was chosen as the capital. A systematic exploitation of minerals was started, agriculture received adequate attention and new crops were cultivated in order to initiate trade and provide mandatory sources for the budget. Development in the field of livestock, communication, internal and external trade, and a new lows were all connected with objectives set by Mohammed Ali when he planned the scheme of the conquest of the Sudan.
