Garlic (Allium sativum) is among the oldest of all cultivated plants. It has been used as a medicinal agent for thousands of years. Garlic contains a variety of effective compounds, such as allicin, a sulfur-containing compound that exhibits hypoglycemic activities. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common of the endocrine diseases. DM is a complex metabolic disorder resulting from either insulin insufficiency or insulin dysfunction. The current studies present the outstanding ability of garlic, to control diabetes by enhancing insulin release and insulin receptor signaling. The present study revealed that, garlic (Allium sativum) has significant effect on improvement of glycaemic status. |
