المستخلص: Cette recherche vise à éclaircir les conditions de vie des Chrétiens au début du 19ème siècle sous le règne de l'Empire Ottoman. Nous avons essayé de savoir si les Chrétiens orientaux étaient-ils les seuls à vivre dans des conditions difficiles et qui ont été les causes ? Pour répondre à cette question, nous avons déterminé les communautés chrétiennes orientales, ensuit, nous avons analysé l'influence politique de l’Occident et celle de certains gouverneurs turcs sur ces conditions. Nous avons pris, comme exemple, l'avis de Chateaubriand, et nous l'avons comparé avec celui d'autres voyageurs contemporains pour arriver à une conclusion générale bien fondée. Nous avons trouvé que, bien que les Chrétiens d'Orient aient subi de mauvais traitements de la part de certains gouverneurs turcs pour des raisons politiques et financières, ils ont reçu également de la part de la majorité musulmane le respect et avaient la liberté d'exercer leurs cultes.

يهدف هذا البحث إلى توضيح الظروف المعيشية لمسيحيي الشرق في بداية القرن التاسع عشر تحت ظل الحكم العثماني. حاولنا في هذا البحث معرفة إذا ما كان المسيحيون وحدهم دون غيرهم قد عاشوا في ظروف صعبة وما هي أسباب ذلك؟ وللإجابة على هذا السؤال، حددنا من هي الأقليات المسيحية الشرقية ثم حللنا التأثير الغربي وتأثير بعض الحكام الترك على هذه الظروف. كمثال، أخذنا ما كتبه شاتوبريان وقارناه مع ما كتب غيره من الرحالة لنفس الحقبة للوصول إلى نتيجة مثبتة. استنتجنا منها أن مسيحيي الشرف تعرضوا للمعاملة السيئة من قبل بعض الحكام الأتراك لأسباب سياسية ومالية، لكنهم حصلوا في المقابل على الاحترام من الغالبية المسلمة، وتمتعوا بحرية ممارسة شعائرهم الدينية.

This research aims to clarify the living conditions of the Christians in the early 19th century during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. The researcher tried to find out if the Eastern Christians were the only community living under hard circumstances and the causes behind that. To answer this question, this study limits itself to the Eastern Christian sects. The study analyzed the political influence of the West as well as the role which the Turkish governors played in these conditions from the point of view of Chateaubriand compared to that of other contemporary travelers to come up with a permanent conclusion. The findings showed that some Turkish governors abused the Eastern Christians for political, financial and religious reasons, where as it is evident that the Muslim people treated them with great respect and respected their freedom to practice their religious rituals.
