المستخلص: يدور البحث حول كيفية تحقيق الاستدامة في تصميم المنتجات البلاستيكية من خلال الحد من استخدام المنتجات البلاستيكية الغير قابلة لإعادة الاستخدام أو التدوير واستخدام بدائل مبتكرة للمواد البلاستيكية، أو تصميم المنتج لتحقيق الاستدامة والحفاظ على المواد البيئية، وتكمن المشكلة في استخدام المواد البلاستيكية كمواد أساسية لبناء المنتجات والتي يصعب تحللها أو إعادة استخدامها أو تدويرها، مما تسبب في إهدار المواد وتراكم جبال النفايات الضارة بالبيئة والصحة العامة، وقد تناول البحث مفهوم، وأهداف، وتاريخ وأهمية الاستدامة بصفة عامة والاستدامة في تصميم المنتجات، والأضرار التي تسبيها المنتجات البلاستيكية ومعدلات إنتاجها في المجالات المختلفة والتوقعات المستقبلية لزيادة حجم النفايات البلاستيكية، إضافة إلى عرض لأهم تجارب تطبيق الاستدامة في تصميم المنتجات بالعديد من الشركات للحد من استخدام المواد البلاستيكية الضارة بالموارد والبيئة، مع بيان أهم الحلول الممكنة لتحقيق الاستدامة في تصميم المنتجات البلاستيكية، وتوصل البحث إلى بعض الحلول الممكنة للحد من انتشار النفايات البلاستيكية، وضرورة إيجاد بدائل للمواد البلاستيكية أحادية الاستخدام في التصميم، وعدم استخدام المواد البلاستيكية دون الحاجة الضرورية إلى خصائصها في التصميم، والاستعانة بالمواد البلاستيكية القابلة للتحلل أو إعادة الاستخدام أو التدوير في أضيق الحدود الممكنة.

The research revolves around how to achieve sustainability in the design of plastic products by reducing the use of plastic products that are not reusable or recyclable and using innovative alternatives to plastic materials or product design to achieve sustainability and preserve environmental materials, and the problem lies in the use of plastic materials as basic materials for building products that is difficult to decompose, reuse or recycle, causing waste of materials and the accumulation of mountains of waste that is harmful to the environment and public health. The research dealt with the concept, objectives, history, and importance of sustainability in general and sustainability in product design and the damage caused by plastic products and their production rates in various fields and future expectations of an increase in the volume of plastic waste, in addition to a presentation of the most important experiences of applying sustainability in product design in many companies to reduce the use of plastic materials harmful to resources and the environment. This, along with an explanation of the most important possible solutions to achieve sustainability in the design of plastic products, the research found some possible solutions to reduce the spread of plastic waste, the need to find alternatives to single-use plastics in design, and not to use plastic materials without the necessary need for their characteristics in the design and to limit the use of biodegradable, reusable or recyclable plastics.
