520 | |b This research sheds light on the influence of the Orient on Charlotte Brontë. It investigates the Oriental prejudices and assumptions roles in the appearance and promotion of this controversial novel. It also tackles the way followed by Charlotte Brontë in her Jane Eyre to transfer various views and aspects of the East, hence, reflecting different representations of Orient from that of her reader's i.e. western culture. This research is not intended to confirm, deny or show any true assumptions about the Oriental man-woman relationship that would definitively contradict the Western views expressed in this research, nor does it involve in the effort to reach an objective estimate of this relationship. However, it aims at shedding light on how those assumptions and prejudices about the East have been employed and introduced through literature to further the Western feminist project. Recognizing and pinning out the feminist Orientalism in Jane Eyre may help clear understanding and pave the way for a balanced analysis of patriarchy and of women's power. The analysis proves that a close reading of these oriental elements shows that Charlotte Brontë is highly influenced by the Orient, its literature and culture and found in the East a significant means to address the curiosity of the readership and attract them. | ||
