The translations of Rubayat Omer Al-Khayam in the 19th century had an obvious impact on the European and international culture. Their impact went beyond the cultural life to the general social life; they also moved from the English language to other languages in an unprecedented way. Omer Al-Khayam gained a great fame making the translator of his poetry one of the first class English writers and translators. The first translation of Rubayat Al-Khayam was carried out in England in the 19th century, i.e., in the Victorian Age by Edward Fitzgerald 1869. The translation was so wonderful that it gained a great fame and shed lights and raised interest in the Eastern literature and thought. Fitzgerald was a gifted poet; he succeeded in reflecting the charming atmospheres of the East with its mysticism, religion with a touch of sad pessimism. This led to a great interest in the East’s literature and religion, i.e., “Orientalism“. The poem is translated into Arabic various times; the best translation may be the one carried out by Ahmed Al-Safi Al-Najafi. The fame acquired by Omer Al-Khayma in our present era is attributed to the translation of his Rubayat which touch upon different issues |
