520 |b Like other countries in the world, Saudi Arabia has exposed to COVID-19 cases that demanded a total lockdown on the 9th of March 2020–28th of May 2020 to minimize the disease spread on a wider scale. This study focuses on the impact of the lockdown on the level of concentrations of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) in Saudi Arabia. Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) is one of the gaseous pollutants in the air due to vehicle exhaust and combustion of fossil fuel processes. Air with a high NO2 level can irritate the respiratory system in humans. Data from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and daily data for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) concentrations were used in this paper. The findings showed a considerable decrease in the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), for example, in Riyadh, the NO2 concentration decreased by average 29.3%, in Jeddah by 27.52% and slightly decrease by 9.86% over the eastern region during the total home quarantine. The results of using the satellite-based tropospheric column NO2 observed by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and comparing between two (OMI) images one during the lockdown in April 2020 and the other during a usual day in April 2015, showed a reduction on the level of the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) over Saudi Arabia during the coronavirus lockdown.
