|b An essential element for any research, the concept is not only an aid to perceive, but a way of conceiving. It organizes reality by retaining the distinctive and significant characters of the phenomena. He exercises a first sorting out in the midst of the flood of impressions which assail the researcher. Law can only constitute a systematic and rational whole if it is underpinned by a network of concepts which gives it its intellectual organization. By proceeding by successive conceptualization, he qualifies such legal act as a contract, a condition precedent, a future thing, a sale, etc.

Il organise la réalité en retenant les caracteres distinctifs et significatifs des phénomènes. Il exerce un premier tri au milieu du flot d’impressions qui assaillent le chercheur. Le droit ne peut constituer un ensemble systématique et rationnel que s’il est sous-tendu par un réseau de concepts qui lui donne son organisation intellectuelle. En procédant par conceptualisation successive, il qualifie tel acte juridique de contrat, de condition suspensive, de chose future, de vente, etc.
